UncategorizedOpening Day 2022!!

March 29, 2022

WLL Families – On Saturday April 2nd, we will have our Opening Day to celebrate our 63rd season at Washoe Little League! It will be our first Opening Day since 2019 and we have a lot to celebrate. Please join us for pancake breakfast, games, bounce houses, hitting raffle, ceremony, T-Mobile Home Run Derby, and lots of raffle prizes!

Here is the breakdown of our Opening Day events:

  • 8:00 AM: The doors open!
  • 8:00 – 10:30:
    • Pancake breakfast sponsored by Poi Boy Catering on Field 3: Kids 14 & under will get a plate heaped with pancakes, sausage, eggs, and some juice totally free.  Adults get the same for just $7 to help defer the cost of the raw ingredients a bit.
    • Raffle Sales: Check out the raffle prizes and buy your raffle tickets for a chance to win! $5 for 1 ticket, $20 for 5 tickets, $100 for your wingspan worth of tickets!
    • Bounce Houses! Let the little ones have some fun at the bounce houses on Field 3!
    • Hitting Raffle: Get your player out there hitting to win some prizes! $10 for five numbered balls. Players will hit the ball into the field. Periodically, we will send players out to pick up a ball. If they pick up your numbered ball, you win a raffle prize! Bring your player’s helmet and bat to participate.
    • T-Mobile Home Run Derby Signups: Open to all baseball and softball players league age 9-12. The homerun derby will start at 11:00. Winners from our local competition could be eligible to compete in a regional competition. Note: Only USA stamped bats are eligible for the competition.
  • 10:15:
    • Teams get in place: Tee Ballers meet with their teams in the outfield of Field 4 to get ready for the tee ball procession during the ceremony. Have your cameras ready tee ball families!
    • All non-tee ball teams meet with their team in the outfield of Field 1.
  • 10:30: Open Day Ceremony begins! We will officially kick off the season, welcome our new players, including all of our new softball teams, congratulate our 2021 All Stars, throw out the first pitches (for baseball and softball), and take a league photo from centerfield.
  • 11:00: T-Mobile Home Run Derby on Field 4: This is for both baseball and softball. Time to watch the boys and girls mash!
  • 11:15 – close: Raffle winners announced!

A few additional considerations:

Player Attire: Please have all your players in full uniform for the day. Most managers have picked up their uniforms and the rest will be handed out to managers this week before Opening Day.

Traffic: You’ll see a couple of fantastic Washoe County Sheriff Deputies helping with traffic flow on Wedge Parkway.  When exiting the parking lot, it will be a very firm right turn only policy so as to get the lot emptied in quick order.

Parking: This is our biggest season at Washoe Little League ever, which means more families and more cars. Parking will be tight! Please, carpool to the ceremony if at all possible and be sure not to block any emergency access lanes or the street leading to the north lot as your car may be subject to towing this year if you do so.
