Washoe Little League Softball Divisions
Ages 4 through 12

Washoe Little League offers four different softball divisions for the kids in South Reno. Our "Lower Division" includes Teeball for children 4-6 years old and Coach Pitch for children 6-8. "Upper Division" includes Junior Player Pitch for children 8-12 and Majors for children 9-12.

TEEBALL

League Ages 4 -6

This is our traditional teeball division. For teeball, the girls will be in a combined league with the same aged boys. They will have the choice to be placed on an all girls, or coed team. Prior to playing at the next level, kids need a year of teeball to develop their skills. The experience is grounded in fun, fitness, and fundamentals while also being a key to growing a child’s love for the game.

COACH PITCH

League Ages 6 – 8

Upon successful completion of a season of teeball, kids move into the Coach Pitch Division. This division is girls only and played on a full sized field and with a larger ball as they transition truly to softball. The goal of this division is still very instructional with focus on developing their live pitch hitting and fielding fundamentals.

PLAYER PITCH

League Ages 8 – 12

Player Pitch is “Upper Division” softball, where games are expected to be more competitive. Kids will go through a skills evaluation and are drafted by coaches to teams for competition. Kids in this division generally have the ability to start making throws across the infield. Kids are exposed to kids pitching for the first time. There are strikeouts but no walks. If a batter receives a walk, they will receive coach pitching. This division will introduce base stealing and advancing on overthrows. Emphasis in this division is on continued defensive skills, base running, learning to pitch and facing live pitching.

MAJORS

League Ages 9 – 12

Majors is the highest softball division where games are played with the highest level of skill and competition. All kids will try out and are drafted by coaches to teams for a competitive experience. This is a purely kid pitch division with no coach pitching. Kids in this division generally are able to routinely field balls and make throws across the infield. Hitters should be comfortable facing live pitching. There are walks and strikeouts, pitch counts, steals, and everything else that makes softball fun. Girls from this division will be selected as All-
Stars and will be eligible to represent Washoe Little League in the Little League Softball World Series Tournament.

POST-SEASON TEAMS
