HomeA Place to Call Home

Washoe Little League is making history—building a true home for girls’ softball at South Valleys Regional Park. The surge in girls’ participation demands equity and first-class facilities, providing girls in our community with the facilities, recognition, and pathways they deserve to compete, grow, and lead. More than fields, this project signals to every athlete and family: you belong, you matter, and your dreams deserve a stage.

The Urgent Need

  • Since 2021, girls’ softball participation at Washoe Little League has skyrocketed by 200%, yet players still rely on borrowed high school fields or aged locations lacking lights, scoreboards, or restrooms.
  • This isn’t just inconvenient—it’s an equity issue. Girls deserve a home field advantage, and right now, lack of safe, modern infrastructure is the leading barrier to participation and advancement.
  • Without investment, Washoe’s softball program will be constrained due to the lack of field space, resulting in limited programs with enthusiastic young athletes being turned away, and the gap in opportunity will only widen.

Impact Beyond the Diamond

  • The $9.9 million capital campaign will expand South Valleys Park with four dedicated, fully equipped softball fields, a concession and restroom building, and amenities like lights, scoreboards, bleachers, batting cages, nets, and shade structures.
  • Construction is already underway, made possible through a landmark public-private partnership. Over $5.5 million has been secured, including major gifts and public investment, with the remaining fundraising focused on finishing and equipping the complex.
  • This complex is the next major step in the park’s master plan and will support future recreational growth for the broader community.

From Grassroots to Broad Community Benefit

  • The new complex is more than a field—it’s a hub for families, a venue for tournaments that bring economic activity to Reno, and a catalyst for civic pride.
  • Local businesses will benefit from increased visitors, while teens gain employment opportunities in umpiring, concessions, and event support.
  • Most importantly, every girl gets a sense of belonging, confidence, and the foundation to lead both on and off the field now, and for generations to come.

Why Now?

Viewership and excitement around girls’ and women’s sports is surging. The Little League World Series is now broadcast nationwide, collegiate softball championships shattered previous records, and pro softball leagues are thriving. Reno’s girls deserve facilities that rise to meet the moment. Acting today secures momentum and creates pathways for scholarships, varsity play, and lifelong healthy habits.

Strong Leadership

Washoe Little League’s extraordinary legacy of volunteer leadership and championship excellence provides a powerful foundation for its capital campaign success. For over 65 years, the League’s all-volunteer Board, coaches, and families have created a culture where commitment, sportsmanship, and community drive every achievement—resulting in 66 District Championships and 7 State Titles since 2000. This depth of experience means the campaign is led by dedicated, proven leaders who know how to rally grassroots support and deliver results. Their passion not only inspires confidence in donors and partners, but also ensures that every dollar raised directly benefits the next generation of champions—making success in fundraising as inevitable as it is on the field.
