Basic Tryout Rules & Information
Tryouts will be held this year inside the Swift Sportsdome! Parents will not be allowed in the tryout area, however you will be able to view your child from the observation deck or from outside the glass viewing area inside the building. We have volunteers to make sure your child gets warmed up properly and to the right spot.
All players league age 12, 11, 10, 9 and 8 who wish to be considered for Majors, AAA or AA will tryout Saturday, February 11th. There are no make-up tryouts scheduled.
Washoe Little League uses a draft process to create teams in the upper divisions. This means that your child may not be selected by a manager for the division that you registered for, unless your child played in that division the spring before (ex. child played Majors spring 2022, that child must play Majors in 2023). If your child is not drafted in the division you registered for, your child will be placed on a team that is a division lower (for example Majors fall thru to AAA; AAA falls thru to AA; and AA falls thru to A).
**IF A PLAYER DOES NOT TRY OUT, THEY WILL BE RANDOMLY ASSIGNED A TEAM BY DRAWING NAMES FROM A HAT. THIS DRAW WILL OCCUR DURING THE DRAFT WITH MANAGERS PRESENT. MANAGERS WILL NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO DRAFT THESE PLAYERS, EACH PLAYER WILL BE RANDOMLY ASSIGNED A TEAM IN ONE OF THE UPPER DIVISIONS AND IT MAY NOT BE THE DIVISION YOU REGISTERED FOR. **
Tryout Process:
-
Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time (see attachment for times)
-
Check in at the front table and get your tryout number
-
Hand in School Waiver form signed by the Principal OR Proof of Residency paperwork if not uploaded at registration.
-
Your child will head to the warm up area and then line up for their tryout
-
Your child will be announced at home plate and their tryout begins
-
After their tryout they will leave the field area and be directed to the general viewing area to find you
What you should bring: a glove, bat and helmet. If you do not have a USA approved bat or helmet, the League will have one available for you to borrow. Baseball attire is recommended. NO cleats, please have your child wear tennis shoes. If your child shows up in cleats, they will do their tryout in their socks.
What to expect at tryouts: Managers and coaches for each division evaluate the players. All players will have an opportunity to bat, run, field ground balls and catch pop flies. We expect to be on schedule and will try our best to minimize delays. We have a lot of kids to get through and we ask for your patience.
Players should tryout at the designated time for their age. If you do not know what league age your child is, go to this website https://www.littleleague.org/
It’s important to tryout at your designated time because Managers are present to watch the division they are coaching. If your child comes too early or too late the appropriate manager may not see their tryout which affects their draft process.
If you have siblings in the same division, please email me (at the email below) and let me know if you would like them to be considered a “sibling option” in the draft. There is no guarantee that they will be on the same team, but it lets the managers know that you would prefer it.
If you are unable to tryout or have a conflict with your assigned time please contact me as soon as possible at WashoeLLPA@gmail.com and I can offer some alternatives times. It is too difficult to squeeze kids into the tryout line up if you just show up outside of your tryout time without getting prior approval.
You will be contacted by your manager with your team assignment no later than Sunday evening, February 19th. The manager will send you an email to the primary email that you used for registration. Please check your spam and junk email folders, oftentimes you will find your welcome letter there.
Thank you,
